The Midhopestones Village Smithy is situated at the crossroads of Mortimer Road
and Oaks Lane, which is handy as Mortimer Road was the main Toll Road in the area
and would have provided plenty of passing business for the Smithy and his apprentice.

On the right hand side of the building is a cornerstone, on which is carved the date of 1788
and the initials GB, which are thought to be the initials of a long ago apprentice … see …

Whilst I was taking these pictures, some local men working in the Smithy building pointed out to
me another 'lesser known' cornerstone on the left hand side, on which there are more carvings,
However whilst plainly visible the carving can't be deciphered … at least not to me, nor the men! See …
