William Mullan and Sons were originally publishers who operated a bookshop at no 12 Donegall Place. I remember reading that they had acquired a 50-year lease, back in the 1930’s, on payment of a substantial premium offset by a peppercorn rent. The shop, which was noted for its selection of railway books, closed when the lease expired but the business continued as a wholesaler. It was also notable as the only shop closing on a Wednesday afternoon when all others had abandoned the practice.
