North Leverton (Subscription) Mill

The four sailed mill built for a group of local farmers in 1813 "to grind corn not only for the members of the Company, but also for other farmers and industrious poor persons, at a fee decided upon by the directors". The surnames of the five founding farmers were Rogers, Ellis, Ashton, Bower and Olivant.

The fourth storey added in 1874 and the two pairs of Peak stones and pair of French burr stones could be wind powered or using an external engine.

Ownership passed to a limited company an finally to a charitable trust in 2008 when the building was on English Heritage's At Risk Register.

Now restored the mill is open on Saturdays throughout the year from 10-00am to 4-00pm and milling whenever the wind is blowing strong enough!
