Glenquicken Stone circle
Glenquicken Moor contains a number of prehistoric monuments, including this lovely little stone circle with its dramatic views northwards towards Cairnsmore and the Minnigaff Hills. It consists of a central standing stone surrounded by a low ring of granite boulders, and is of a type which seems to be locally distinctive to Galloway. There are at least two other similar, smaller and less well preserved stone circles about 2 km to the SE and SSE, and the 1850 6" OS map shows another stone circle about 250 metres to the NW. However when the RCAHMS inventory was compiled in 1914, no trace of this last circle could be found and the site is now lost.
