Location is at the north end of Earl's Island off R863 (University Road). View is to the west from the west end of Salmon Weir Bridge over the River Corrib. The official name of Galway Cathedral is Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St Nicholas. It was built 1958-1965 on the site of the old city jail. The seating capacity is 1500. The shorter south wing is shown to the left and the longer north wing is shown to the right. The entrance shown in the middle is along the east side in the east wing.
