The Poulnabrone Dolmen is also designated as the Hole of Sorrows on The Poulnabrone Dolmen is also designated as the Hole of Sorrows on the map. This megalithic tomb dates back to about 3500 BC. A dolmen is a stone monument that is built over an ancient mass grave. Excavations in the 1980s revealed that at least 22 adults & children were buried here, along with personal belongings (stone axe, bone pendant, quartz crystals, weapons & pottery). It appears that a large portion of the capstone (stone on top) has broken off.
