Castles of Leinster: Carrick, Kildare (1)
There remains just the east corner and parts of the adjoining walls of this tower at Carrick, located east of the Boyne River. At the SE end is a block that was added at some stage that contained a kitchen with a fireplace, and a vaulted room above with a fireplace and angle loop, plus one upper storey. It was the scene of a massacre in 1305 when 32 O'Connor chiefs were slaughtered at a banquet at the instigation of Sir Pierce Birmingham and Jordan Cumin.
