The R639 south of Galtymore
I was intrigued to spot the brown sign "L7315 Galtymore Climb". When I first came to Ireland in 1989, they seemed to do their best to obstruct access to the hills. I am glad to see that, except in one or two places such as Truskmore, the attitude is more welcoming. After all, hillwalkers bring in revenue!

Before the M8 Dublin to Cork motorway was opened (the adjacent stretch in July 2008), this was the N8, which explains its high standard for a Regional (class R) road. As there are no tolls on the adjacent section of the M8, the R639 carries little traffic and it is now a pleasure to drive along it.
