If you try to enter an Irish motorway the wrong way, the first thing you encounter is a 'No Entry' sign, followed quickly by a 'Turn Back' sign (as seen here). If you are foolish enough to continue, you will encounter (at many but not all junctions) a sign
DANGER
WRONG WAY
TURN BACK

Now, I suppose it is possible that such warnings are more necessary in Ireland than in the UK, as graded junctions are more recent there. But as we keep reading of people driving the wrong way along the M25, perhaps we should do something similar. These signs would cost a trivial amount compared with the current upgrading of central barriers. Is this yet another example of the Treasury saving thousands but wasting billions?
