The impounded stretch of the River Lagan, as far as the Stranmillis weir J3470 : The Stranmillis Weir, Belfast (5), is semi tidal with the level controlled by the weir gates J3474 : The Lagan weir, Belfast (17) at Donegall Quay/Queen’s Quay, which are lowered (opened) as seen in J3474 : Lagan Weir and train, Belfast (July 2014) in the hours around high water. Today was a perigee (the period when the Earth and the Moon are at their closest) Link something which causes higher and lower tides. This photograph, as the Lagan flows under the Governor’s Bridge, was taken about seven minutes before high water Belfast.
