Trá na bPaisti
Trá na bPaisti
A visit to Trá na bPaisti in Co. Galway. Trá an Dóilín, known locally as Trá na bPaisti, is a Blue Flag Beach located in the Irish speaking Gaeltacht area of An Cheathrú Rua in Connemara, Co. Galway. The beach is located 2 km south-west of the village of An Cheathrú Rua and is also commonly referred to as ‘the Coral Beach’. The place-name, Tra na bPaisti (‘the children’s beach’) probably relates to a children’s burial ground once situated nearby. The disused burial ground was located on the seashore, on east side of Cuan an Fhir Mhoir, although it has been obliterated by a modern carpark. There were other burials to east, also removed, which were marked by circles of stones. It remained in use until c.1960.
