Coquet Island is in view from some way down the coast, but here becomes close enough for the buildings to be seen well. Its long history encompasses St Cuthbert himself, several hermits, a Scots garrison and the lighthouse dating from 1841. It is now an RSPB reserve, particularly for roseate terns.
