The local name ( Welsh ) of Rhyd Y Cyffyn would seem to indicate that this was a ford at one time, and that it was on the border? In this area which has always appeared to be an anglicised part of the country the number of Welsh names liberally sprinkled with English, would seem to indicate an area of disputed territory in ancient times. Also nearby Carreg y Franc, ( Frenchman's Stone ) adds to the confusion.
