NJ6622 : Oxen Craig Viewpoint and View to NW On 12th December 1856 a man from Oyne was found dead, sitting on the Craig, having frozen to death. The locals erected a memorial stone where he was found. McConnochie in BENNACHIE (1895) wrote that all that remained of the monument was the square-cut foundation for the stone, a few yards from the cairn. Is that what we see here I wonder?
Oxen (ousen) Craig was in 1895 also spoken of as 'Robbie Deson's Tap', after the dead man - Robert Dawson.
