Castles of Munster: Tomdeely, Limerick
Lying close to a medieval church is a C13 hall house, built by a bishop of Limerick. Now much defaced above its steeply battered vase, it has damaged loops at the lower level, with damaged openings at both lower and upper levels. Inside, the timber floor of the hall has been replaced by a pair of vaults supported upon a central longitudinal arcade of six low arches. The castle later passed to the Desmond FitzGeralds, and although there is no evidence to suggest that they were responsible for its later remodelling, it does seem likely.
