The life size (or slightly larger) knight effigy is almost certainly a Cantwell, who would have been a lord of Kilfane. Dressed in chain mail, he carries a sword and a shield bearing the Cantwell "coat of arms". He dates from the late C13 or early C14, and is known locally as "Long Cantwell". Typical of the period, his legs are crossed, possibly denoting he was a Crusader.
