Rheidol gorge
The Afon Rheidol makes a 90-degree turn from north to west in the gorge below Pontarfynach/Devil's Bridge. This is a result of the Rheidol tapping into the existing river bed of the Teifi due to glacial action Link . An intermediate plateau has formed some 40m above the bottom of the gorge downstream of this bend in the river, providing enough room for a cottage and some pasture Link . The track of the Vale of Rheidol railway crosses the foreground.
