SD3448 : The Knott End Ferry
taken 12 years ago, near to Fleetwood, Lancashire, England
The Knott End Ferry
The ferry sails between Fleetwood and Knott End across the mouth of the River Wyre. The current boat is the latest in a long line, as there has been a ferry in service here since 1841. In the early days it was operated by sail and oars and it was not until the 1890s that the first steam launch was used. The journey takes about ten minutes, while the nearest land route via Shard Bridge is almost 14 miles.
