NH6091 : Harvester Ant

taken 17 years ago, near to Bonar Bridge, Highland, Scotland

Harvester Ant
Harvester Ant
This ant is most likely to be seen dragging or carrying seeds back to its nest. Some workers have much bigger heads than others and they use their large jaws to crack the seeds. I find it fascinating how one tiny creature can carry such a huge load in comparison to its body size.
