Lake Vyrnwy dam
Lake Vyrnwy dam
The dam at the southern end of Lake Vyrnwy, Powys, Wales.
Taken from the trail in the Sculpture park below the dam.
This stone built dam was built in the 1880s and was the first of its kind in the world.
It flooded the head of the Vyrnwy valley and submerged the small village of Llanwddyn. It provides the area of Merseyside with fresh water.
The area around the lake includes some of the foothills of the Berwyn range and is a popular retreat for ornithologists, cyclists, walkers and hikers.
