City Airport/Sydenham bypass boundary (October 2015)
The view, towards Bangor, along the Sydenham bypass, from the combined railway and road footbridge. The proposed widening of the road to three lanes in each direction was announced back in 2008. In simple terms the third outward lane would (in that proposal) occupy the line of the existing hard shoulder with a new 3.5 metre shared footpath and cycleway. The scheme envisages taking some 15 metres (49 feet) of land from the City Airport (left) – currently part of an internal road system mainly serving two non-passenger car parks.
The Sydenham bypass, Belfast

Approximately 2˝ miles of dual carriageway forming part of the Belfast – Bangor Road. It runs from the end of the M3 to Tillysburn, parallel to the Belfast – Bangor railway and also serves the George Best Belfast City Airport. It replaced the Holywood Road as the main road to Holywood and Bangor. There are plans for major improvements at the junction with Dee Street.
