View across Lough Corrib from window of Ballycurrin Lighthouse
A narrow window space at the top of the late eighteenth century Ballycurrin Lighthouse, situated on the eastern shore of Lough Corrib, lying just inside County Mayo on the Mayo/Galway border, provides a commanding view over the northern end of the lake with the mountains of Connemara observed in the distance. The lake has numerous wooded islands, some of them inhabited. The lighthouse is the only known lighthouse in Ireland that is situated on a freshwater lake.
