SD3597 : Hawkshead Royal Observer Corps nuclear bunker

taken 8 years ago, near to Hawkshead, Cumbria, England

Hawkshead Royal Observer Corps nuclear bunker
Hawkshead Royal Observer Corps nuclear bunker
This now disused nuclear bunker sits in the middle of this lake district town at the back of the graveyard.
Once a monitoring room for the Royal Observer Corps during the cold war used to monitor levels and directions of blast and fall out after a nuclear attack. Unfortunately these bunkers weren't really designed with survival in mind and have no air filters. The Royal Observer Corps were a volunteer force whose rile changed to suit the relevant threats throughout ww2 and the cold war.
