Donegal Road (R263) approaching Killybegs, Co. Donegal
The name of Killybegs is derived from the Irish for "Small Cells". This is a reference to the small cells built by the monks who at one time lived in the area. A monument in the form of replica little cells has been built adjoining the R263 on the Donegal side of Killybegs. The replicas are near the brown sign seen here on the right of the road. See:- G7277 : The Little Cells sign, near Killybegs, Co. Donegal.
