Last Train from Headcorn at Robertsbridge, Kent & East Sussex Railway, 1954
After arriving at Robertsbridge for the very last time, the 08.50 from Headcorn has been reversed back into a siding by the engine which has brought it from Tenterden on a cold and wet January morning. (The Very Last Train went back to Headcorn at 16.50). The locomotive, allocated at the time to St Leonards (74E), is one of the celebrated and immortal ex-LB&SCR Stroudley 'Terriers', class A1X 0-6-0Ts: No. 32655 had been built as class A (A1 from 1905) No. 55 'Stepney' in 1875, successively becoming No. 655 from 1900, rebuilt as A1X in 191-13, No. B655 from Grouping in 1923, 2655 from 1930, 32655 after 1948 Nationalization, finally after withdrawal in 5/60 and purchase by the Bluebell Railway it was given back its original No. 55 - and its name.
