SY2894 : Musbury: Musbury Castle

taken 17 years ago, near to Musbury, Devon, England

Musbury: Musbury Castle
Musbury: Musbury Castle
View from the site of the iron age hillfort, accessible by public footpaths – steeply from the village and more easily from the north, along the ridge. Looking south west to the mouth of the Axe and Seaton Bay. The Romans had a port at Axmouth and this is reputedly where the Fosse Way ended. Axmouth village is hidden by the wooded Hawkdown Hill, the site of a second hillfort. Musbury Castle stands 170m above sea level
