The “Poohsticks” bridge at Bourne, Lincolnshire
A rustic bridge over the Bourne Eau in South Street takes visitors into the War Memorial and Wellhead Gardens. The river has been a favourite haunt of small boys throwing twigs into the water and watching them float downstream and in the summer of 2015, this picturesque footbridge was named by Visit England as one of the best to play Poohsticks, a game first featured in The House at Pooh Corner, published in 1928 since when it is reputed to have become one of the nation’s traditional pastimes.
