Haslett statue, Belfast
Haslett statue, Belfast

This statue, in the grounds of Belfast City Hall is of Sir James Haslett – Lord Mayor in 1887 and 1888. The sculptor was Frederick Pomeroy. The building is due for a major renovation soon (including the statues too - I hope).
Belfast City Hall :: J3373

Belfast City Hall was built in 1896/1906, by H&J Martin LinkExternal link to a design by Brumwell Thomas. It replaced the White Linen Hall (1785-1896) LinkExternal link (“white” refers to the colour of the linen rather than the building) on the same site in the middle of Donegall Square. Apart from its architectural merits and being the seat of the City Council it tends to be the place from where directions are given.
