Plaque, Calvert Jubilee Nature Reserve near Edgcott
This metal plaque set in stone is close to the entrance to Calvert Jubilee Nature Reserve, see SP6825 : Calvert Jubilee Nature Reserve. It reads 'Berkshire Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Naturalists Trust. Calvert Jubilee Nature Reserve by ???? with London Brick Company Limited. Opened on March 20th 1978 by Sir Ralph Verney By KBE DL JP.'

Sir Ralph Verney, who died in 2001, was a local land owner and owner of nearby Claydon House (now run by the National Trust), and whose ancestors include a Lord Mayor of London, and Members of Parliament. The now disused railway station and hamlet, Verney Junction, east of Steeple Claydon, was named after Sir Harry Verney, who was the chairman of the Aylesbury and Buckingham Railway Company.
