The former Largy National School
The former Largy National School
This private home was until 1959 The Sherman Memorial National School, or, more commonly, the Largy School. The school was opened in 1910 and replaced an earlier structure that stood next to the Largy Bar which can be seen in the background about 200m down the hill from the school (the pub can be seen in C9900 : The Largy Bar). The school was so named on account of a donation made by a Mrs Sherman in memory of her dead husband. Mrs Sherman had emigrated to America in the 19th century.
