SK5879 : Worksop Station
taken 8 years ago, near to Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England
This fine station has survived remarkably intact. The original buildings of 1849 comprise the single storey range west of the two storey section. This building with its gable central entrance and gabled end wings was clearly intended to provide a suitable access point for the many landed gentry of the Dukeries district, for whom Worksop would be their 'home' station.
The eastern end including the two-storey section, was added in matching style around 1900 and comprised refreshment and waiting rooms with residential accommodation over. The less impressive range on the opposite platform was built at around this time too.
Much of the building complex is currently occupied by a Business Centre housing small firms, with the two storey section housing The Mallard public house. As of 2015, the station still retains a booking office, with limited hours of opening. It is operated by Northern Rail.
The complete station is Listed Grade II.
