Britannia and Corfe Castle
Britannia and Corfe Castle
70000, "Britannia", gathers pace up the hill out of Corfe Station with Corfe Castle in the background. Beautifully turned out for the weekend of the Swanage Railway Spring Steam Gala, Britannia was one of the last steam locomotives to be built, a "Standard Class", at Derby in 1951. She served most of her service on the Eastern Region, based at Stratford and Norwich and is particularly associated with the Harwich Boat Train. Doesn't she look superb? I can almost smell the warm oil and sulphurous coal!
