Snails compete for overwinter accommodation
Snails compete for overwinter accommodation
These snails have found a good place to spend the winter. I imagine that the iron fence post, which is probably from the early half of the 20th century, provides them with some protection from the prevailing cold wind, but it must get pretty chilly sometimes. Another group was found nearby in a slightly better insulated situation.SX9050 : The snails are overwintering in the oak fence post I am not sure why they want to be so far above the ground.
