The abbey church is seen here across Abbey Close, from the steps at the front of Paisley Town Hall.
Paisley abbey was founded as a Cluniac monastery in 1163 and disbanded in 1560 during the Scottish Reformation. The building fell to ruin after this but was rebuilt in stages from 1858 to 1928 as a Presbyterian (Church of Scotland) parish church. It is also frequently used as a venue for classical concerts. At the time the photo was taken, the building was closed for interior refurbishment work.
That's a strange arrangement of drain pipe branches there. Some are running up to the main pipe and others are horizontal. I wonder what's inside the building that requires or enables such an arrangement?
