SO2439 : An Interesting Yew

taken 8 years ago, near to Cusop, County of Herefordshire, England

An Interesting Yew
An Interesting Yew
This Common Yew sits on a triangle of ground at New Forest Farm on the road from Hay-On-Wye to Craswall and Hay Bluff. Behind the tree in this photograph is an old road now just a footpath that led down to Cusop Dingle via Llangwathen and on down to Cusop Castle and Church. Both the old and modern roads lead to and from churches with the yew perhaps a reassuring marker on route long before the age of the motor car. This possible scenario seems a reasonable explanation for a large number of single Yews in the Welsh Marches.
