NZ6309 : Westhouse Bridge

taken 7 years ago, near to Kildale, North Yorkshire, England

Westhouse Bridge
Westhouse Bridge
The cottage beyond is now called Leeman House, most likely originally for a signal/points man on the branch to disused mine.
There used to be a small dam and fish ponds just downstream too.

The house is at the highest point of the Middlesbrough to Whitby line and the peaty area to the East is the watershed between Leven and Esk.
The peat is several metres deep, and it is said through this section the railway bed rests on brushwood laid over thousands of sheep fleeces.
