Undercroft at Newbattle Abbey
Undercroft at Newbattle Abbey
The vaulted undercroft is thought to date from the original buildings of the Cistercian abbey founded in 1140, twice burned by the English and finally disestablished in 1587. It has been retained with the stonework intact during the conversion of the buildings first to a stately home and eventually to a college of education.
