Goodwick Brook and Goodwick Bridge
Goodwick Brook and Goodwick Bridge
Of course, this tiny stream didn't cut the wide, deep valley separating Fishguard and Goodwick - it was formed by the River Teifi at the end of the Ice Age. The meltwater-swollen river was blocked from draining westward by the Irish Sea ice sheet, and so was diverted south through Fishguard Bay, forming this valley, and also the Treffgarne Gorge further south, and ultimately Milford Haven.

The brook forms the boundary between Fishguard and Goodwick, and is also the ancient boundary between the cantrefi of Cemais (east) and Pebidiog (west).
