The site of the former trackbed from the top of Rowley Cross Bridge (number 57). Over 80 years since the last train ran directly beneath this photo, and straight into the distance, the cutting has been completely filled in over the years. Some serious excavation will be needed to open it up again.
The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway was a 19 mile long narrow gauge railway, which ran across the stunning Exmoor landscape, from 1898, until its closure in 1935. In 2004, after many years of hard work and negotiation, a small section was re-opened. It is hoped that this section at Bridge 57 will soon be a working part of the railway once more.
