Burren karst at base of Turlough Hill, County Clare
Burren karst at base of Turlough Hill, County Clare
The karst limestone, so typical of the Burren landscape, is shown in this image. A field of rocks lying at the base of the SW end of Turlough Hill leads up to a rock wall circa 200 metres away. On the other side of the wall the base rock field continues upwards - a herd of feral goats (just about visible as tiny white dots in the upper centre centre of the image) were grazing circa 200 metres past the wall. Immediately behind the goats is a vertical cliff. The pavement then continues upwards in a succession of karst layers to the top of the hill - Turlough Hill reaches a height of circa 280 Metres.
