The Ben Race 2007
The Ben Race 2007
Every year 400 or so extremely fit masochists compete in the race up and down Ben Nevis. The route taken is normally partly on the "tourist path" and mostly missing out the zig-zags of the path to go straight up and down less vertical, but still somewhat precipitous, bits of the hillside.

At points such as that shown in the picture, the route taken by the runners crosses the standard path. Weather presents another challenge for competitors with warm and humid conditions at the bottom contrasting with a chillingly cold wind up in the inevitable cloud layer towards the summit.
