The nearest house has a blue plaque which states "Muriel Matters-Porter 1877-1969 Adelaide activist. First woman to speak in the House of Commons. Lived in this house 1949-1969". A suffragette and feminist, she died of pneumonia in November, 1969 at St. Leonards, was cremated at Hastings Crematorium and her ashes scattered in the Garden of Remembrance.
