TQ9656 : Tamworth pig, Eastling

taken 7 years ago, near to Eastling, Kent, England

Tamworth pig, Eastling
Tamworth pig, Eastling
One of three weaners in an enclosure off Divan Court. The breed originated in Tamworth with input from Irish pigs. It is among the oldest of pig breeds but it is not well suited to modern production methods and is listed as "Vulnerable" in the UK by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust as fewer than 300 registered breeding females remain. Eastling churchyard is behind the fence.
