Newark Butter Market

When the Georgian town hall was built, it included a market hall on the ground floor, known as the Butter Market.

A Victorian covered market hall, and was added and opened on 13th October 1884. This closed in 1988, and the space was converted into an indoor shopping centre on two floors.

The new shopping centre opened on 10th May 1990.

Confusingly, the new arrangment is known as both the Butter Market and the Royal Exchange.
