Pelicans and pigeons in St. James' Park, London
The leading pelican has just entered the water watched by the second one. The third is too busy preening. Viewed from the footbridge crossing the lake. Great white pelicans were introduced into St. James' Park in 1664 as a gift from the Russian Ambassador.
These are Great White Pelicans (Pelecanus crispus), as were the original London Parks birds donated by Russia. There is also however, I understand, a single American Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) with them now.
