TQ3080 : 25-30 Craven Street

taken 11 years ago, near to London, The City of London, England

25-30 Craven Street
25-30 Craven Street
Stately houses dating from c1791 when the street was extended towards the river, each in three bays and four storeys plus basement. The street was originally laid out for William Craven from 1730 by the architect Henry Flitcroft, aided by the carpenter Thomas Phillips. The east side is well preserved. Grade II listed.
The blackness is probably due to accumulated dirt; alternatively it is due to a Victorian fashion for painting things black.
