J2105 : The inner gates of the Templetown Holy Well

taken 6 years ago, 5 km SSW of Greenore, Co Louth, Ireland

The inner gates of the Templetown Holy Well
The monograms "M" stands for Mary (BVM) to whom the well is dedicated. The ubiquitous Slieve Foye stands in the background left. The Cooley Mountains and the Mournes of Co Down separate the eastern coastlands of the Cooley Peninsula from the rest of Ireland and gives the area a feeling of timeless isolation. In this, it has much in common with the Kingdom of Mourne which lies between the Mourne Mountains and the Irish Sea.
