taken 6 years ago, near to Tweedbank, Scottish Borders, Scotland

Birch Polypore (Piptoporus betulinus)
Birch Polypore (Piptoporus betulinus)
This was viewed in woodland on the northeast side of Cauldshiels Loch. This inedible common fungus is almost always confined to birch trees. It is also known as Razor-strop Fungus, because in past times, strips of the brackets were utilised as razor strops.
