Markham Grange Steam Museum - beam engine
Markham Grange Steam Museum - beam engine
This four column Woolf compound beam engine was built by Goddard and Massey of Nottingham in 1878 and used at Bedford's Clapham Road water pumping station. It had been on outdoor display at Mander College, Bedford and was moved to Markham Grange for restoration in 2010. The restoration is now well advanced after thousands of man hours of volunteer labour and many ingenious solutions to problems associated with the engine's long period of outdoor existence.
