Binnhill Tower (1)
The story I was told as a child is that some young noblemen who had been on the 19th century Grand Tour of Europe thought that the cliffs on the north wide of the River Tay near Perth resembled the cliffs along the Rhine, and they agreed that some castles here would increase the resemblance. The Earl of Kinnoull had
NO1322 : Kinnoull Tower built, and Binnhill Tower was built for his neighbour Francis, 14th Lord Gray . Not only have I found no documentary support for this story, but the information I have found is conflicting, some sources saying that Lord Gray was responsible for both follies, and others disagreeing about which Earl of Kinnoull was involved.
